Bus Cap Berhad and BYD Malaysia have signed an exclusive memorandum of understanding in Shenzhen to explore local assembly and manufacturing of BYD Malaysia electric bus models in Perak. The agreement, signed by Executive Director Bernard Ng Chong Yan and Managing Director Jacob Ma, also covers potential expansion into electric trucks, forklifts, vans and minibuses.
The collaboration brings together BYD’s electric vehicle technology and global commercial vehicle experience with Bus Cap’s local manufacturing and after-sales capabilities in Malaysia. Should the assembly project proceed, production would be based in Perak, with both parties also exploring new energy mobility opportunities across Southeast Asia.

The signing was witnessed by senior BYD figures including Luo Zhongliang, Vice President of BYD and General Manager of BYD Commercial Vehicle Division, and Wang Aihui, Brand Director of BYD Commercial Vehicle Division. Bus Cap was also represented by Non-Independent Non-Executive Director Teoh Keng Chang and Procurement Director Alfred Choo.
The MoU forms part of Bus Cap’s stated ambition to build Malaysia’s new energy commercial vehicle ecosystem, with BYD’s global electric commercial vehicle technology central to the proposed partnership. The agreement is exploratory in nature, with commercial terms and production timelines subject to further negotiation between the parties.
